Yesterday š“šš³ was quite the interesting day in NY as we experienced an earthquake šš ©šš¾ in the morning and an aftershock in the evening! We donāt have earthquakes šš ©šš¾š¦ in NY very often so it was quite the experience for many of us!Ā
The ancient Egyptians believed that Gebās š ¬šš laughter is what caused earthquakes šš ©šš¾š¦ to happen! Geb š ¬šš is the god š¹ of the Earthās š¾š¾ surface, which the ancient Egyptians called the Upper Earth. Anything that occurred on the Earthās š¾š¾ surface was considered to be Gebās š ¬šš domain!Ā
The deity Tatanen šÆ is often associated with things that come from the interior of the Earth š¾š¾ (Lower Earth) such as minerals, rocks ššššš¦, and plants š¾š°š°š°! While today we know that earthquakes šš ©šš¾š¦ come from the interior of the Earth, the ancient Egyptians didnāt know that but itās still so cool they made this distinction!
The god Geb š ¬šš can be depicted in art in a couple of different ways!Ā

On Wereshneferās sarcophagus is one depiction: Nut šššÆš, the goddess š¹š of the sky/cosmos šŖššÆ, is seen as a woman arched over the rounded Earth š¾š¾ and is supported by Shu šš ±š, the god š¹ of the atmosphere.Ā At Nutās šššÆš feet is Geb š ¬šš who is represented by feet with two arms holding the rounded Earth š¾š¾!Ā

On the painted depiction, Geb š ¬šš is seen lying underneath the rest of the figures such as Nut šššÆš and Shu šš ±š, the god š¹ of the atmosphere.Ā
