Pompeii – read, listen and watch

I have been creating content about Pompeii (and Herculaneum) for a good while so I thought I would have a page with all the links to articles, videos and podcast episodes. Have a scroll and get reading, listening or watching about Pompeii!

Pompeii – articles.

I have done a couple of articles on this blog about Pompeii so here they are:

Pompeii  – podcast episodes.

As you will be aware I’ve covered Pompeii in a few episodes of my podcast (Ancient History Hound). Here are some which not only cover the timeline and what happened – but a fab one about the gardens there and what they can tell us. I’ve included some links for each episode but you can find Ancient History Hound on most platforms as well.

Pompeii.

Ever wonder what the timeline of those fateful days was? This episode covered just that, what happened, when and the results. There’s also some updated information from the first episode.

The Gardens of Pompeii with Jessica Venner.

You may recognise Dr Jess Venner as an expert on Pompeii and specifically its gardens.  Ever wonder what was grown, how and why? What were gardens used for and how was this similar to today and different? We also discussed the controversy over lemons, but I’ll leave it at that.

Pompeii. Before, during and after.

The first episode I recorded about Pompeii. I talk about how Pompeii grew, it’s origins, and eventually came under the rule of Rome. I then discuss the mechanics of the eruption as well as what happened after. Was it really a place frozen in time?

Pliny the Younger.

It was Pliny the Younger who witnessed the eruption and wrote a famous account of it in one of his letters. In this episode I cover his account as well as his life in general and other letters (including his dilemma over Christians).

Pompeii – YouTube and TikTok.

Perhaps some of you follow me on YouTube or my TikTok (I’m ancientblogger on both). I’ve sorted playlists on both for Pompeii where I talk about specific aspects. It’s largely the same content shared across each btw. Both playlists are on the profile page so you can find them there, but just in case.

Other Pompeii resources.

I’ve used a number of resources including books and studies. You might find them useful so here they are.
