The Hatshepsut Gallery (Part 2)

Thanks to my momย ๐“„ฟ๐“๐“, who was at the museum with me, I was able to get such great pictures ๐“๐“…ฑ๐“๐“ฆ in the Hatshepsutย ๐“‡‹๐“ ๐“ˆ–๐“Žน๐“๐“„‚๐“๐“€ผ๐“ชย Gallery!

Here I am in between the two ๐“ป large red granite ๐“…“๐“Œณ๐“๐“Žถ statues ๐“„š๐“ˆ–๐“๐“ญ๐“€พ๐“ช of Hatshepsutย ๐“‡‹๐“ ๐“ˆ–๐“Žน๐“๐“„‚๐“๐“€ผ๐“ช! These statuesย ๐“„š๐“ˆ–๐“๐“ญ๐“€พ๐“ช are tremendous in size and so gorgeous ๐“„ค to look at! Hateshepsut ๐“‡‹๐“ ๐“ˆ–๐“Žน๐“๐“„‚๐“๐“€ผ๐“ช really does look regal in them!ย

In both statues ๐“„š๐“ˆ–๐“๐“ญ๐“€พ๐“ช, Hatshepsutย ๐“‡‹๐“ ๐“ˆ–๐“Žน๐“๐“„‚๐“๐“€ผ๐“ช is in aย kneeling position holding a nemset jar ๐“Œ๐“บ in each handย ๐“‚ง๐“๐“บ. In ancient Egyptย ๐“†Ž๐“…“๐“๐“Š–, kneeling is considered a worshipping ๐“‡ผ๐“„ฟ๐“€ข/offering ๐“Šต๐“๐“Šช๐“๐“”๐“ฆ position, and hieroglyphs ๐“Šน๐“Œƒ๐“ช at the base of one of the statuesย ๐“„š๐“ˆ–๐“๐“ญ๐“€พ๐“ชย say that she is offering ๐“Šต๐“๐“Šช๐“๐“”๐“ฆ plantsย ๐“†พ๐“†ฐ๐“†ฐ๐“†ฐย to the god ๐“Šน Amunย ๐“‡‹๐“ ๐“ˆ–๐“€ญ.ย

The main difference between the two ๐“ป statues ๐“„š๐“ˆ–๐“๐“ญ๐“€พ๐“ช is that one has a false beard and one does not! In statuary, pharaohs ๐“‰๐“‰ป๐“ฆ were usually depicted wearing a false beard as it was a sign of royalty ๐“‹พ. Since most of these statues ๐“„š๐“ˆ–๐“๐“ญ๐“€พ๐“ช were found in pieces at Deir el-Bahriย ๐“‚ฆ๐“‚‹๐“‚ฆ๐“ฅ๐“‰ย during excavations, itโ€™s possible that the statue ๐“„š๐“ˆ–๐“๐“ญ๐“€พ on the right was supposed to have a false beard but it wasnโ€™t found, or that it was never supposed to have one!
